Job Summary

The data analyst job family provides the data modeling, data analysis, and data validation functions in support of application development, data analytics, and business analysis projects. This role designs the organization, structures, and definition of data to meet business requirements and needs of the organization.

 

  
Key Activities

  • Develops enterprise Data Architectures strategies and solution recommendations in support of business strategies.
  • Develops recommendation and conducts analysis in support of department and business line strategic efforts.
  • Provide thought leadership and consulting services to business lines.
  • Establishes processes for governing the identification, collection, and use of corporate metadata; takes steps to assure metadata accuracy and validity.
  • Assesses and determines governance, stewardship, and frameworks for managing data across the organization.
  • Champion enterprise data management best practices.
  • Provides consultation during strategic planning, prioritization, and implementation projects.
  • Provides Leadership to System and Local work groups.
  • Leads evaluation and recommendations efforts for future data architecture structure and standards.
  • Recommends the modeling approach for projects.
  • Leads design of high-level conceptual and logical models that facilitate a cross-system/cross functional view of data requirements.
  • Develops and delivers long-term goals for data modeling and standards.
  • Oversees the mapping of data sources, data movement, interfaces, and analytics, with the goal of ensuring data quality.
  • Establishes methods and procedures for tracking data quality, completeness, redundancy, and improvement.
  • Conducts data capacity planning, life cycle, duration, usage requirements, feasibility studies, and other tasks.
  • Promotes data management methodologies and standards.
  • Collaborates with project managers and business unit leaders for all projects involving enterprise data.
  • Identifies and develops opportunities for data reuse, migration, or retirement.
  • Provides consultation during business requirements gathering efforts.
  • Designs and coordinates Data Model changes in support of projects Reviews data model changes made by junior staff.
  • Leads Data Profiling and Data Quality analysis using SQL or other query based analysis
  • Develops Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) Specifications to support data conversion and integrations.
  • Develops and implements solutions for cleansing data to remove errors and ensure consistency.
  • Analyze data to discover information, business value, patterns and trends in support of program decision making.
  • Reverse Engineers data specifications from source systems through data discovery, analysis, and other techniques.
  • Develops Data Dictionary.
  • Leads the development of reports, analyses and recommendations as needed.
  • Collaborates with Database Administrators in the design of physical data models and/or performs reverse engineering of physical data models from databases and SQL scripts.
  • Develops and maintains Data Models.
  • Conducts Data Profiling and Data Quality analysis using SQL or other query based analysis.
  • Creates and executes data quality test cases and analyzes results for improvement recommendations.
  • Develops simple or moderately complex Interface or Extract mapping specifications.
  • Develops necessary reports, analyses and recommendations as directed. Interacts with developers to ensure they have an understanding of the data model.
  • Maintains conceptual and logical data models along with corresponding metadata.
  • Develops best practices for standard naming conventions and coding practices to ensure consistency of data models.
  • Makes minor Data Model changes.
  • Data Profiling and Data Quality analysis using SQL or other query based analysis.
  • Executes data quality test cases and tracks results.
  • Maintains Interface or Extract mapping specifications.
  • Maintains Data Dictionary.
  • Maintains necessary reports, analyses and recommendations as directed.
  • Executes assignments in support of maintaining data quality and availability to meet business needs and requirements.
  • Conducts work in compliance with policies and procedures related to the development and support of data systems.

 

Qualifications

  • Candidate is required to have either: (1) Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an information technology field and IT certifications, preferably related to architectural design; or (2) Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an information technology field.
  • At least 6-8 years data architecture experience, with expertise in both transactional and data warehouse modeling.
  • Master data management and data governance experience desired.
  • At least ten years of information technology experience. Technology architecture/engineering, information security, or related experience required.
  • Excellent initiative, innovative thinking skills, and the ability to analyze details and adopt a big-picture view.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to explain complex technical information to technical and non-technical contacts.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to effectively build relationships, promotes a collaborative and team environment, and influences others.
