Job Summary

Responsible for the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of complex Microsoft SQL Server databases. Demonstrates a thorough understanding of concepts of relational databases. Responsible for defining, implementing, and maintaining database structures, procedures, and techniques to ensure data security and integrity. Expected to have a working understanding of DB standards and reasons for implementation, and is expected to understand Change Management methodology and its utilization for database changes. Requires a service oriented mentality and a high sense of ownership of the problems and requests assigned.  

Key Activities

Develops and manages consistent database environments that are flexible, reliable and facilitate application development, data delivery and data management.  Works closely with developers and technology leaders to ensure that quality solutions are developed. Analyzes and tunes application performance by optimizing database objects.  Troubleshoots and provides technical solutions to database issues encountered by new and existing applications in the environment.  Actively monitors and recommends changes to the DBMS environment to increase efficiency, improve reliability and minimize operating expenses.  Establishes automated procedures for the proactive notification of potential space and performance concerns.  Learns the tools used for real-time and proactive monitoring of the database and recommends ways to better leverage them in the environment.  Develops, implements, administers and maintains policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the organization’s database assets.  Query tuning,  job scheduling and linked server management activities.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree specializing in information systems, technology, or equivalent work experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Six to ten years of experience as a SQL Server DBA.
  • Innovative team player with strong analytical, problem solving and planning skills.
  • Strong organization skills and ability to effectively handle multiple concurrent assignments.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
  • SQL development and SQL tuning experience.
  • Thorough understanding and compliance of database security best practices.
  • Must be available for off-hour and on-call work in the event of outages, problems and off-hour required changes.
  • Experience with SSIS and SSRS preferred.
