Are clustering and replication requirements a "must have" or "nice to have"?  

We are looking for an experienced SQL person so  the expectation would be they understand both of these.

 

Can you share what your top 3-5 "must have" requirements are for the SQL DBA role?

Secret Clearance or interim Secret

Security + certification is a big plus – this may be required

MS 2012/2014 DBA Certification or 5-10 years’ experience as a SQL DBA

Must be familiar with network based backup and recovery         

Must be familiar with Capacity Planning and Storage management techniques

1-3 years working with DISA STIG, FedRAMP and FISMA security requirements as applied to SQL Server

 

Description:

SQL DBA (Secret Clearance) 

Responsibilities including: configuring, monitoring and maintaining Oracle Database systems. Additionally, this position is responsible for ensuring that all databases operate at optimum levels. Position is subject to FAR 52.222-41, Service Contract Act (SCA) of 1965, as Amended Nov-07, and the most current SCA Wage Determination (WD) issued by the Government under NGEN contract which is attached to this Job Posting. 

SQL DBA Role 

• Configures the software and database environments; 
• Maintains the database operation; 
• Schedules jobs to backup the databases; 
• Maintains the server services and application process and monitors the logs for errors; 
• Troubleshoots database problems and performs database recovery; 
• Collaborates with the technical services group and application support personnel to facilitate integration activities between databases and applications; and 
• All other duties as assigned. 

Skills/Experience 

• 4+ years of hands on experience as DBA with SQL Server 2008 and 2005 installing, configuring, managing, administration, monitoring and troubleshooting 
• Experience with Microsoft SQL Server clustering and high availability systems architecture and design 
• Proficient with administration of large volume SQL databases 
• Knowledge in SQL server tuning, backups, restores and replication 
• 7+ years in an IT Systems Administrator Role 
• Knowledge of Windows Core Services including Active Director, GPO, Microsoft DNS, WINS and DHCP
